Advanced Study Academies
The academies focus on high-potential and high-performing students within the system who have unique needs and learning styles.  Students are challenged with opportunities in abstract thinking, problem solving and the use of higher-order thinking skills.  The schools employ a school-wide enrichment model and use project-based hands-on instructional techniques to provide differentiated instruction to students who are working at least one grade level ahead of many other students of their age and grade placement.  The application process for these schools begins in the fall of each year.

Magnet School Information:

International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)
The IBO programmes share a common philosophy and common characteristics.  They develop the whole student, helping students to grow intellectually, socially, aesthetically and culturally.  They provide a broad and balanced education that includes science and the humanities, languages and mathematics, technology and the arts.  The programmes teach students to think critically, and encourage them to draw from many disciplines.  They instill in students a sense of responsibility towards others and towards the environment.  Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the programmes give students an awareness and understanding of their own culture and of other cultures, values and ways of life.  Students in the regular attendance districts will receive first priority.  If additional openings remain, an application, and if warranted, lottery process will be implemented.  The parish Compliance Officer will give final approval for out of attendance district students who qualify and are selected to attend the school.  The application process for these schools begins in the spring of each year.

Montessori Program
The instructional methods of the Montessori Program are grounded in the teaching philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori.  The philosophy states that children have an innate curiosity and a need to learn, and they will self-educate if allowed to do so naturally according to their development levels.  The Montessori classroom captures the curiosity of the child and builds upon it.  Children learn at their own pace based on their individual interests and developmental levels.  Montessori students develop a positive attitude about learning, along with a positive self-image and a strong sense of independence and responsibility.  Children work in a multiage setting that promotes respect, sharing and the reinforcing of knowledge between older and younger students.  Classes are directed by Montessori-trained teachers and are limited in size to ensure individual attention.  The application process for these schools begins in the spring of each year.

Academies for High School Preparation are specially designed for middle school aged students who are in the 5th through 7th grades and are at least two academic years behind their expected grade placement. An extended day focusing on additional ELA and math instruction is implemented for grades 5, 6, 7 and 8. When academically ready to pursue 8th grade GLEs, students are promoted to 8th grade and administered the spring LEAP Test. Students are promoted to the 9th grade based on successfully passing the LEAP Assessment as any other 8th grader and their 8th grade required course work.

Each school has limited enrollment. Candidates who qualify are identified by parish administrators. Students and parents sign a contract for selected participants. The promotion criteria for Academies for High School Preparation only apply to those students enrolled in these Accelerated Academies.
